Author Profile

Mark Twain

Mark Twain (1835–1910), the pen name of Samuel Langhorne Clemens, was an American writer, humorist, and lecturer widely regarded as one of the greatest figures in American literature. Born in Florida, Missouri, Twain drew heavily from his experiences along the Mississippi River, which inspired many of his most famous works, including The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. His writing is known for its wit, regional voice, and sharp observations of human nature and society.

Twain’s impact on the literary world is profound, particularly in shaping a distinctly American voice in literature. He pioneered the use of vernacular speech and realism, bringing authenticity and depth to his characters and settings. Through humor and satire, he addressed serious issues such as race, morality, and social injustice, influencing generations of writers. Today, Twain is celebrated not only for his storytelling but also for his role in defining the direction of American literary tradition.

Don’t write for the promise of money. Write because you love it.
Write because there’s a story in you that won’t let you sleep until it’s told.
